I think my first memories began
when I started school at about five years old. I lived in a suburb os Sydney.
I had a happy childhood. I remember playing in a big garden. I fell from a
big tree and broke my hand. I remember I had a naughty friend named Giant-O,
because he was fat. He liked hitting and pulling my head. It was so pathetic.
One day I hit him over the head with my bag. His parents were very angry with
me. But I didn’t feel sorry at all at that time. Nevertheless, since the
Giant-O has become my good friend. It was such an unforgettable childhood.

The Spanish Armada
![]()
Orientation
In May 1588, Spain, whose army was
believed to be the greatest, was the most powerful country in the world. King Philip II of Spain was determined to conquer England and become its king.
SERIES OF EVENT
He
ordered a large number of ships to be prepared to set sail and invade England. At first, Queen
Elizabeth I, who believed that her army was the greatest in the world, ignored the rumors of a Spanish invasion. However, soon she came to
realize the great danger tha country was in and she made sure that England
would be prepared for a battle.
Eventually, the Spanish were ready and over 100 ships set sail towards the
English channel. As soon as the Spanish ships were seen from the English coast, fires were lit on the hills as
a signal that the incvasion was coming. When the spanish ships got close enough, the English navy closed in and great sea battle began.
Once the battle started, it was obvious
to the Spanish that they would be deeated. Not
only did the English sailors have stronger and more powerful ships, they also
made terrifying use of fire ships
boats that were deliberately set
ablaze and then sent in among the Spanish fleet.
Reorientation
At last, the battle was over. A
few Spanish ships escaped and
eventually reached home, but many were sunk
and this day some of their wrecks
still lie on the sea bed in the English Channel.

Flores, Indonesia
Dear Hndri,
Here we are in Flores!
Flores is undoubtly on eof the most beautiful places in
Indonesia if you like to get ‘off the beaten track’!
I started off with Rado in Moumere and took an amazing
journey over the mountain village called Detusoko. We managed to wake up at 4
to see the three different coloured
lakes at dawn. It was trully awe-inspiring! I would love to go back to Flores
one day.
Best wishes,
Denise

PORTFOLIO:
Making Class Recount Collection
·
The class will establish
work teams (determined by the class) which consist of students who are good at
writing recounts. The teams will have to collect all of the students’ works and
edit them. Classify them into several main topics: embarassing, frightening,
funny (silly) surprising, etc. Then, compile them to make a Recount Collection
Book. Some pictures may be added to give illustrations.
·
There should be a
coordinator for this activity. Each them should also have a coordinator.
·
The works compiled are
from all the activities done previously. The recount texts can be from group
works or individual works.
·
After the book is
finished, the recount books of the class can be presented to your school
library collection.

would say, ‘No, what do you really want to do for a job?’ But that was the
only thing I ever wanted to do.”
